Pinch Hitter Question

I was just wondering if you have for instance 2 Right Fielders. One is a 7L and the other a 9R . Say a left hander is starting out so i start the 7L player. But say later in the game a righty pitcher comes in the game, Will the computer pinch hit with the 9R player. I know I have to set this pinch hitting stuff in the settings. But will the computer recognize this more often than not and make the correct change?

thanks for your comments

My results (based on 11:30 PM observations as I watch the games) have been disappointing in that HAL does not do what I would want to do. In other words, using your example, HAL might make that change for me late in the game, but if the SP is replaced in the 4-5th inning, not as often as I might. To give the benefit of the doubt, perhaps the decision was to help protect my team from losing flexibility late in the game if the opponent goes from LH starter to RH middle relief to LH closer , but I feel like I suffer through some mid-game matchups that are pretty painful.

Yes, this is a point I've tried to make. We need a PH FOR option (i.e. 7th inning and later a platoon guy is ph for if an opposite throwing pitcher is in the game). The DON'T PH FOR makes no sense to me.

I think people miss the point, yes you may get stats at the end of the year that shows a platoon by numbers worked. In baseball its when not what. So if HAL bats Gennett with runners scoring position in the 5th against Middle lefty then PH's later it might be to late then. Now I understand HAL can't make on the fly decisions like that, but like Scumby says and I would think these options wouldn't be very hard to code.

Exactly. Great post. If there is a pitcher change before the 7th odds are you are winning so to PH for your platoon guys is not as big a deal if it's in a tied/losing situation.

What IS the point of a Don't PH For option?

it drives me crazy, almost impossible to run a platoon

Every time the anti-platoon people start posting I see ridiculous statements like this one. You statement should be "It drives me crazy, almost impossible to run a platoon where HAL makes 100% of the moves I want him to make". As I've posted in the recent past, it is not unusual at all to get 85%-95% favorable splits when using platoons. The reality of what goes on is exactly the opposite of what you state. When you get 85%-95% favorable splits, it is entirely possible and greatly to your benefit to run a platoon even if HAL does not make all the moves you would hope for. I'm glad at least some feel as you do, as it makes it a lot easier to grab the platoon studs

I believe his point is a platoon system only needs to PH that 5%-15% of the time and you cannot control that. There will be a favorable split as long as the starter is in and then if the RP is the same hand thrower.
