KInsler's dWar almost doubled last year from 1.6 to 2.9. Getting out of that sluggish Arlington heat obviously helped the guy. Dombrowski didn't have his finest year last year--the Fister trade, A.Gonzalez as SS, and the Soria trade--but he definitely got the Kinsler-Fielder deal right.

TEXAS: Elvis Andrus falls to a 2 at SS this year
Have not looked at the defensive metrics. But players tend to pay a price if their team slides down. So without the injuries Rangers a playoff contender Elvis may not have dropped.
But no going to argue with the 2 this year. He still has the talent to be among if not the best shortstops in the game. But he does have a tendency at times to get bored and have mental lapses. I think losing Kinsler before season began and then the revolving door at second did not help him much. Team had so many out all the time being one of the few healthy bodies Elvis did not get any time off until late in the year. You could tell at times he was fatigued and the Texas heat was taking a toll and he was playing fatigued.

How about Yunel Escobar going from a 1 to a 4?
How in the world can that happen?

According to sabermetrics Escobar was awful. He gave up 17 more runs than the "average" defensive player (RTot).
Compared to all MLB defensive players Escobar was #1306 out of #1313 with -17 RTot so a 4 is justified.
Derek Jeter was #1312 with -27. Only Nick Castellanous was worse
