LEAGUE DESIGN SHOULD REFLECT REALITY

WHY ARE THE LEAGUE CHOICES UNREALISTIC? IN 1903, THERE WERE TWO LEAGUES OF 8 TEAMS. WHY ISNT THAT THE CHOICE: A REALISTIC 8 TEAM LEAGUE INSTEAD OF A 6 TEAM LEAGUE WHICH NEVER WAS. ALL OF THE LEAGUE CHOICES SHOULD REFLECT REALITY, RIGHT? THEN, WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO CHOOSE A PLAYOFF TOURNEY INSTEAD OF A LEAGUE, SO WE COULD CHOOSE TO PLAY THE WINNERS OF THE TEAM LEAGUES, DESIGN OUR OWN PLAYOFFS.

ALL OF THE HISTORICAL LEAGUE DESIGNS SHOULD BE POSSIBLE.

I think the main reason for this is because the current formats allow for the 3 game series schedules to be used. I imagine putting together random (3 game series) schedules for other league formats would be quite an ordeal to program - especially if they aren't divisible by 3.

I am not sure what the length of schedule was in 1903 (it appears maybe 142 games?) but I know the season length was only 154 until expansion in 1961. I am guessing the cost of programming to allow unlimited choices or even historical choices isn't worth the anticipated income from these alternatives.

In addition to the additional programming required is the ability to fill leagues. Every additional option you add for forming a league adds to the difficulting of filling leagues.

In the beginning there were limited options, auto league or custom password protected leagues, DH or no DH. A league filled in a couple hours. As additional options have been added the time to fill has increased.

I would love to see a Game Per Day league option. It would take about 6 months to complete, but I would like to be able to adjust lineups and strategy per game like real life. Also, we would have much better coverage for injured players instead of Hal's ridiculous decisions. The list goes on.

Just a thought.

Several years ago, Bernie indicated that Strat had the ability to do just what you've proposed, Kevin. I sent him an email to see if he might test the concept on a league I would put together, but there was no response. I agree, it would be a fun alternative.
