some stat compilers online let you do certain stat sorting, even without a "column" for it -- say, AB/HR
does anyone know where I can get a list of 2014 (or any) players sorted by PA/2B? I want to know the best doubles-hitters without simply using a "counting" stat that doesn't account for players with fewer games played

Well if you have the ratings download and are a member of SOMworld.com, ( it's a paid subscription site) they produce an add on for the ratings spreadsheet that gives the doubles and triples counts for both sides of the cards used with a filter on PA's for excel that would get you the info.
Also have you just tried ESPN.com and MLB.com's stats pages? seems you could list highest doubles and then set a threshold by pa's. ESPN's is set up in 25pa increments, you could also do it by position on their site to narrow it down even more.

Thanks for responding. That won't help, because it's still just a "counting" stat -- the issue isn't a minimum number of PAs (as in a "rate" stat), but most doubles per PA, which I could then eyeball to exclude obvious low-PA flukes
as for SOM, I want this free! hence online

Do you have the ratings spreadsheet?

Are you just looking for Doubles per At-Bat (not Plate Appearance)? Using Excel with the downloadable SOM player list, I did a quick list of the top 25 or so as follows:

For Strat purposes, it might be better to simply use the Excel hitters' data and translate each player's stats into what they would be at 600 AB each. On that basis, the top doubles hitters are:
Kouzmanoff, Kevin - 77
Nieuwenhuis, Kirk - 75
Colon, Christian - 67
Blanco, Andres - 64
Goldschmidt, Paul - 58
Susac, Andrew - 55
Lucroy, Jonathan - 54
Soler, Jorge - 54
Clevenger, Steve - 54
Ynoa, Rafael - 54
Thanks for asking the question, by the way. I knew about most of those guys -- drafted Nieuwenhuis, Colon, Blanco, and Ynoa in various "pre-card" draft leagues -- but who on earth is Steve Clevenger?!?

You're right - I agree with your list based on 2B/AB - my previous list filtered out certain teams and any player under 600 PA's and it erroneously excluded the guys that you have listed.

I hadn't thought of that! -- I am bad at spreadsheets and I always forget you can get them to do arithmetical operations. Per PA would be better, but per AB is fine -- thank you.
Is that excel data the free version in the player set, or is it from the ratings guide?

That's just from the free download at the SOM site
