2014 Cards - HAL putting players out of position

My starting catcher Matt Wieters got hurt. During the game that he got hurt in my back up catcher Derek Norris was in the line up as DH so HAL put David Wright at catcher. Not a big deal and I expected not to lose my DH in a DH league. Next game, even though I have a back up designated at catcher, HAL did not move my back up from the DH spot to catcher and continued to play David Wright at catcher. I have a back up at DH in my line ups so not sure why HAL would keep playing Wright out of position. I have only 2 eligible catchers. Any thoughts on this?

Do you have Norris listed as the backup?

I've seen this too, and it's a problem. The DH seems to have some kind of "sacred cow" logic encoded into it. HAL will almost never mess with your DH. This goes for pinch hitting and pinch running as well.

Yes he is listed as back up for both LH and RH line ups. I don't use the reverse line ups.

Steve F speaks wisely! Play your backup catcher at DH at your own risk.

Based on Steve F''s insight if I were a bit more cut throat I would move Wieters to DH figuring he would not get hurt as often as his 6 injury would indicate since he is a better hitter than Norris as well as a better defensive catcher which is why he is at C and Norris is at DH.

I'm a new team in a 24 team keeper league so my DH choices are Ricky Weeks, Ryan Howard, Andre Ethier, or Matt Dominguez besides Norris. Norris has been hitting Weeks and Howard have not.

Wright has some pass balls but not a lot of throwing errors and he has thrown out runners at a 30% clip Besides he has made 10 of 16 X out plays so not completely terrible.

So I guess next extended injury for Wieters I will move Norris back to C and DH Wright and put Dominguez at 3rd who has hit above his card filling in at 3rd while Wright is catching.

What position you play a player at has no bearing whatsoever on his injury chances

I'ts not just Catcher.

SOM will not change your "Starting" lineup, other than the injured player. Say you have someone like Vogt that can play LF, RF and C. You have him slotted as your starting Rf and backup C. Your regular C is injured, Vogt will stay on RF since he is the starter there.

That is their logic, make sure all your backups are not starters, otherwise this can happen.

I've had HAL PH and PR for my DH, but if a player is listed as your starting DH in the lineups, HAL will not move him to another position and put in the listed sub in the starting lineup---I'm not positive, but I think the DH has to be injured for the listed sub to start a game.

I've run into the same problem--playing Cervilli and Weiters, starting Cervilli at C and Wieters at DH (when starting DH Ortiz was hurt). Holt goes in as my Catcher.

Yep, I have Vogt playing OF so I carry a cheap 3rd.catcher for insurance.
