Possible Glitch?

First season using Aaron Sanchez. Games 8 and 9. He did not pitch at all in game 7. He seems to tire way too soon for an R2, don't you think?

I still think he got fatigued too fast. I suppose the alternative is everybody he faced fouled off a lot of pitches. I never see an R2 decline like that.

Actually, I looked at all nine games so far, and it sure looks like Sanchez is in a fatigued mode since game 2, in which Sanchez pitched 4 innings. I know from experince that after a 4-inning performance, a R2 behaves pretty much like what I dub a R1+---similar to a R1, like being vulnerable to fatigue as soon as the second inning, especially when allowing hits/walks in the first inning, but without falling directly from F9 to F3 after allowing 3 hits/walks in the first inning. Hence, I wasn't surprised to seeing Sanchez getting rapidly fatigued in game 3. He still pitched 3 innings, for a total of 7 innings in two games. And even though he rested in game 4, he sure behaved like a R1+ in games 5 and 6, and then again in games 8 and 9. It looks as though he would need two days of rest, not just one, before getting back to the full R2 cylinders.

I think one of the points is, there are different kinds of R2s, since it foes by a specific pitch count given to each pitcher.

That is a great explanation! Seems if you're going to really "ride" and R2, maybe have another guy to back him up in situations like that

For the record, strat added a new rule since 2010, see 27.65. This is for the board game, but makes you wonder how SOM enacted the rule for the computer game, which has a more nuanced way to implement fatigue.

Sanchez never tires that quickly for me---team is done but Sanchez was great--and pitched 4 innings often.

would be nice to know one way or the other for sure. The whole point of paying 5.21 for an R2 like that is to get 250 innings out of him
