Warning: Dallas media rant

When Josh left someone got a quote out of him that Dallas was not a baseball town. Local fans and media threw a fit.

He is back. Their top prospect is being called up. They have turned their season around just finishing a sweep of Boston to get a game over .500. They have a rule 5 rookie in Deshields who is tied for 3rd in stolen bases. They recently called up and started one of their top pitching prospects Chi Chi Gonzalez. Tons of stories the local media could/should be talking about.

So what do I get to listen to Monday night on my way home from Walmart? Manziel threw a water bottle at some kid. Someone picked up Randle on their fantasy team last week of season and now has keeper rights. This went along with a debate on how many yards he will gain when training camp has not been held and not yet named as the starter. Changing channel got me Haley is named by someone as an honorary starter. He is involved in some race I never heard of.

Baseball town my foot!
Every member of this media that howled about that should go to Josh and personally apologize. I can only fantasize what it would be like to actually live in a baseball town.

Ok. Got that out of my system. Thanks for listening.

I am excited though. I got tickets to see Gallo's debut. Unfortunately not in RF.

Yes, Josh was right; Dallas/the Dallas area isn't a baseball town. However, I'm not sure why living in a baseball town would be such a fantasy for you. If you're a baseball fan, merely having an MLB team--particularly a competitive one like the Rangers--should be cool in itself. I grew up in Marin County, and San Francisco was never a baseball town while the Giants were in Candlestick, but I still loved going to that frost-box as a kid.

I would also probably hold off on seeing the Rangers as having "turned their season around." Gallo is definitely a special prospect; his power is probably a 90 on the 20-80 scale. However, neither Deshields nor Gonzalez can be expected to be game-changers. DeShields is obviously wicked fast, but he struggled as a hitter through most of his minor-league career, which spurred the Astros to leave him off their 40-man roster. So,there are still considerable questions about whether he can be a big-league regular. And while Gonzalez was splendid at Oral Roberts, his ceiling is as a mid-rotation starter at best; so, he is no rotation saver.

Anyway, enjoy Gallo; I hope he puts on a show for you.

Occupational habit of living in Dallas and being from Arkansas. Studying Walmart was mandatory at the U of A.

Valen if you DO live in a "baseball" town you have the opposite problem. While I have not lived in Boston I did live in New England ( Bristol RI) for four years and let me tell you every time a Sox player has a hang nail it's cause to call in the national guard.

I actually have less of a problem seeing your story, of the local media talking about football than I do about them wasting time with Manziel, most over hyped player since Tebow, but at least Timmy actually showed up to play, he hasn't played well, but you can't fault his effort.

Manziel??? Well the kids year last year speaks for itself.

gotta be enjoying Gallo right about now: 3 for 4 with 3 runs, a BB, single, double, HR & 4 RBI. maybe the Dallas media will have time to discuss his debut tomorrow.

If you want Johnny Manziel back, Cleveland would probably oblige.

I had bought tickets to the Gallo debut before I found out he was being called up because it was free beach towel night. Great luck there. That was exciting. Heard normal walkup ticket buys are a couple hundred and there were over 2000 for that game. The baseball fans in this town have been waiting for him to show up and he did not disappoint at all.

There was some debate about whether that first single was an error or not but that was a no doubt hit. That ball was smoked. First baseman gets his body in front of that and he is probably on DL today.

Had to laugh on the last AB the first base coach was almost in RF. Guess they are not going to enforce that coaching box thing when Gallo hits.

The Gallo exploits did get some baseball talked about at lunch. But apparently the local media exhausted their baseball knowledge pretty fast as they had to fall back and discuss some bimbo on instagram posting post sex pics of the bearded nut from Houston. You might guess I am a Maverick fan. :D
