How did Posey get a hit here?

Eighth inning, Flyball LF X to Juan Perez a 1. The result is a single advance 1.

I ruled out these:

Pitcher fatigue; Casilla was at F9 before and after the result.
Home field advantage; Posey was on the visiting team.
Rare play; no rare plays result in a hit on only possible results of F1, F2, F3, or error results.

The only thing I can guess if the third baseman was guarding the line (stupid with a 3-run lead). Also the guarding the line maximum rule is one of two STUPID rules in our online game. (I like most of the implemented max rules but this one and pitch around are implemented so horribly as to be an embarrassment to an otherwise statistically sound game.) Anyway, is that what happened here?

Any other ideas how ideas Posey got his single? It's really annoying to make the right move (Perez coming in for defense) and have it nullified by something silly or stupid.

you can also rule out:

-outfielders playing in (winning run wasn't on 3rd base)
-pitch around option (first base was not open)
-weather effect (this site says option is off at the online http://somonline.wikia.com/wiki/Compari ... D-ROM_Game)
-confusion between basic rating and super-advanced ratings (J. Perez is a 1 at lf also in the basic mode)

So what we are left with?

-some sort of miscellanous rule (like guarding the line or maybe allowing adding realistic throws to extend to turning an out into a throwing play at second base and the runner at first beats the throw?)
-some glitch (Juan Perez is played as if he was a 2)

Only 2 outs in 4 opportunities also--looking at your fielding stats--and no errors, so he has given up at least two hits--should be impossible for a 1 rated OF

Yeah, this should not be possible. I think the only explanation for it is a glitched card (they have him programmed as a 2 in all fields).
Good luck getting them to admit this though, I've been harping on the 1983 Rickey Henderson card for close to a year now

Just for the record, I never got a reply.

Worse, it looks like he gave up three hits out of 10 chances in left field during the season, so I really question if he's a 1 in that position.

I looked over 15 seasons of J Perez in the Tour, trying to replicate your finding, and there were no foul plays: perfect X out at primary position except for errors which were all accounted. Many seasons had Perez with very few PO, so it could be a case of a too small sampling, but still, it does not look as if SOM forgot to load a 1 on J Perez defensive card.

BTW, this was the first instance, a double on J. Perez

http://onlinegames.strat-o-matic.com/ga ... 427042/413

And the third instance, a single that leads to a 3-run rallye that came just short

On all three occasions, a double switch occurred. So I wonder if this is rather not about a glitch in the code governing the double switch: computer first sets Perez at rf, to backup Kemp, then makes the double switch with Suzuki and places Perez in lf, but the code forgets to upgrade the new range number.

Fascinating analysis, thanks. Also a disturbing analysis!

PS. I sent another email to SOM support with your analysis. Hopefully, since you identified the cause of the issue, they will reply--and, hopefully, ultimately fix it!
