Let's talk about the Cap Hit on default leagues

I think it's time we revisit this.

Default cap hit in Auto-leagues is still, after 15 years, 20%. Is there a reason to keep it so?

Mystery games brought is the 5/10/20 progressive cap hit. I think every theme league I have ever been in since then has used that. I honestly have never seen 10% used.

Why is is the 200x game still uses 20% as the default cap hit? Especially with many newer (or less knowledgeable players) joining auto-leagues, they tend to kill their teams with changes. Can't we help keep the league more competitive with the progressive cap hit? What is the reason is stays at 20%?

Anyways, what do you guys think? What should the Cap hit be in Auto-leagues?

20% (Keep it as)
10% (keep it low)
5/10/20% (progressive like Mystery game)

I have seen 10% used in a few leagues. The logic for that, I think, is to permit more freedom of player movement, right up until the moment that the rosters are frozen. I think it's a good idea for some leagues. Having said that, I agree that 5/10/20 should be the default.

I think Mystery card games are a different animal than the 20xx sets, and I would see a compelling difference justifying the different cap hit penalties.

Why does it stay at 20%? Does anyone know why it was set at that number to begin with?

I won't care what SOM does for cap hits very much, but it has been an advantage for me based on my style of managing my roster when people go crazy doing drops.

Just off the top of my head, and again, it isn't a big issue for me on this topic, either, but I think a case could be made that there would be even fewer in-season trades made with a lower cap hit. At 20%, the cap hit should drive me to try and make trades before doing a drop/add. Then again, from most leagues I have been in, there is almost no trading going on after the waivers run.

I voted for the 5/10/20. With that being the tournament default now, it makes sense to keep it consistent across the board

I voted 5/10/20. It almost seems like a no brainer.

I'll respectfully disagree. Certainly, for mystery card games, it should be so as you have no idea which card you are getting. But, for 2XXX games, you know exactly the card you are getting. The penalty should be higher, in my opinion.

I'll say this, it would certainly encourage more trading! :)

5/10/20% are always the most competitive leagues to me---only thing I would do different if I could make it happen--when a player gets dropped that was on your original draft list, but you missed, you should be able to pick him up with no penalty if he was never on your roster.

If it was a live draft then I can see 20%, but with auto-draft, you do not always get who you want, sometimes half your team is not who you want, and even with waiver wire prior to start of season, same applies, need to make adjustments once the season starts.
