Manipulating the lineup

PostSun Apr 24, 2016 1:29 pm

Tonight my rightfielder is injured for one game and I want my DH to play RF for the first game. However the DH in the batting lineup is so weird, I don't know how to get this accomplished. Here is my lineup:
1. Marte - SS
2. Wright- 3B
3. Gutierrez - RF (Injured - 1 game)
4. Cruz - DH
5. Cespedes - LF
...

For the first game, I'd like
1. Marte - SS
2. Wright - 3B
3. Cruz - RF
4. Trumbo - DH
5. Cespedes - LF
...

If I set the Cruz as the backup for RF and the starting DH, I believe that Cruz will play DH for all games (not what I want when Gutierrez is injured). On the other hand, I believe if I set RF as Gutierrez with Cruz as backup and leave DH blank and batting fourth, it will play the right players, but Cruz-DH will drop to batting ninth. Correct?

Is there any way to get what I want above?

You need to have Cruz as the 1st sub for RF and Trumbo as the first DH sub, and Hal will do the line-up as you wish. And it should be in the order you want, given the players.

Jeep,
In the past I thought HAL wouldn't shift the starting DH in the lineup to a real position. For some reason, it did not work as well as other shifts (like shifting the starting LF to RF). I'll give it a try, though.

I do it fairly often. It should work, let us know if it doesn't.

Nope won't work.

Garcia's latest blog post covered this very topic:

John Garcia wrote:Also, the backup system will NOT move the starting DH to another position even if he is the listed backup. The game will then take the next available backup or another player from the bench. For example:

Sample depth chart
1B: Paul Konerko (backup 1: Lance Berkman) (backup 2: Miguel Cairo)
DH: Lance Berkman

If Konerko is injured, the computer manager will keep Berkman in the DH spot in the lineup and skip him when choosing a new first baseman, which will be Cairo. If I wanted Berkman to start at 1B I would need to move him out of the DH role and select another player as the starting DH.

Lastly, please note that this system applies only to the beginning of a game and does not affect in-game substitutions.

Sometimes it does sometimes it doesn't . That's what is so frustrating. I have a team with Carew at DH and just recently HAL moved him to 1B and put Cerv in at DH just as I wanted it to. Another team awhile back I had the same thing only Jeffcoat was the backup OF. That time HAL left Carew at DH and put in S Alomar at 1b. Settings were the same on both teams. Drives ya nuts! ;)

Thanks for your input, guys. I ended up setting this lineup last night:
1. Marte - SS
2. Wright- 3B
3. Gutierrez - RF (Injured - 1 game)
4-9. [blank]

It was a disaster. It moved Wright to DH and started a crazy lineup for both games (with and without Gutierrez). And I lost both games. In retrospect, I think I should have played Trumbo in RF one game or left the DH blank, and let HAL pick the right DH, but bat him ninth. Oh well, lesson learned.
