I've experienced most if not all formats in 20XX (200/999M, 60M, live draft or not, etc), and the best one I've experienced is the 80M/24 team live draft. First, you have the challenge of a live draft, all players should experience that challenge at least once. Second, the 24 team-format makes it sure that all talent is drafted, and therefore, there is no free agent above 2M. This consequence, and the 80M limit, allows more stability among teams, it prevents something that annoys me in the 12-team 999M, when a team frees struggling players that are picked up by some other team---in one 999M league, my roster was at 140M after picking up players while others had it around 115M (if I didn't pick up the free agents, another team would have). You don't experience that sort of unbalance in 24/80M format, one team had a 77M roster, most were above 79M. But, yet, there is sufficient free agents (most if not all below 2M) to allow some fine-tuning during the course of the season.
