Headlines

They really need to work on improving the game headlines and write-ups. Khris Davis hits three homeruns and yet it's his teammate, Brandon Moss who gets the headlines. http://365.strat-o-matic.com/game/433611/26

This is one thing (maybe the only thing) that was better back on the old TSN site. The game headlines, and especially the league headlines were much more varied. You used to get mentioned for things like hitting your 30th homerun, or winning your fifth series in a row. Now, there seems to be just be a couple of recycled headlines.

totally agree my team got off to good start playing over .600 ball after 100 games, went on 5 game losing streak and hal the sportswriter had the nerve to call my team totally inept.

Yeah they are weird, but let's fix the problems like starters being rehashed first. We all know a player who hits 2 homers in a loss gets the headline.

It's trivial, I know. But, it's actually one of the things that drew me to the game in the first place, and it's one of the things that separates it from the myriad fantasy games. It's a nice feeling when your team or one of your players gets a little recognition.....

We all know a player who hits 2 homers in a loss gets the headline.

I know, that's what makes this instance so funny. They were both on the winning team.

Agreed. Repetitious, misses the biggest event in the game--I've seen no-hitters tossed but because 3 pitchers combined to hurl it, it goes unmentioned--and often clumsily written. The AI that's available for this sort of thing is far far advanced of what we're seeing.

It does seem strange that the old TSN site had better game recaps, with MUCH more variety--"XXXX sweeps YYYYY," "XXXXX wins 20th," "YYYYY hits 40th HR," etc.

Got to be a faulty memory or the same memory problem most of us older folks have when we fondly recall the good ole days.
Even in the TSN days it was the strato cdrom engine that was generating those headlines. So not sure I see how they could have been different, let alone better.

Valen: How long have you been playing? Do you not recall the "XXXXX hits 30th Home Run" or "YYYYYY wins 20th" headlines? Headlines announcing a sweep for the series finale?

It's not a case of poor memories. It's a fact. Here are some examples:

SWEEP
http://365.strat-o-matic.com/game/107545/663

TAKES 2 of 3
http://365.strat-o-matic.com/game/53520/932

NOTCHES 10th WIN
http://365.strat-o-matic.com/game/53520/481

LAUNCHES 50th HOME RUN
http://365.strat-o-matic.com/game/106846/953

Casting aspersions against the memories of others is off-putting. It would be best if you delete your post instead of misleading the community, sir.

TSN used to have the same boring, redundant headlines we have now.

Then, a couple of years before the move to SOM, TSN recruited folks (active managers) to help write new headlines/stories for the AI to make them more interesting, resulting in headlines like those Tom cites above. I think teepack was commish at the time, and he might have been among the volunteers who worked with Bernie on the project. We had the much-improved new headlines for a couple of years, but they disappeared after the move to SOM.

Don't know if those "new" headlines are lost forever, or just misplaced during the move. But, as I recall, it didn't take long for the volunteers and TSN to come out with the new and improved headlines, once they decided to do so. Seems like SOM could easily do the same, if they cared.

Yep, that's them. And, they weren't just game headlines but sometimes league headlines on everyone's front office page. If your team sucked, like mine often did, then getting a mention there would at least give you a little encouragement.

Tom:

I think Valen was intending that as self-deprecating ("...us older folks.") No need to take it so personally!

Now, what was I saying?

I forgot.

Oh yeah.

Yesterday, Bumgarner threw a "no hitter" but was slighted by the press with a "no headline." Instead, my mundane Cueto shutout got the props. Seeing as that I have purchased more teams than the Bumgarner manager...
