baseball-based board games?

Hello all,

Can anyone recommend a baseball based board game suitable for kids about 7 or 8 years old? When I was in grade school/middle school a few decades ago, we played a game called Red Barber Baseball. It was great fun, but did require a minimum knowledge of baseball rules, which we learned painlessly along the way and used when we played real baseball.

I did a current online search, but no Red Barber game. There are plenty of others, but I can't tell which are the best, in the sense of fun and accessible to kids 7 - 8. The Red Barber game must have come out about 1950 and just used dice and cards to advance the game; very low tech; nothing electronic.

Any recommendations?

I didn't find the right solution from the internet.

Stratomatic makes a very basic game for kids. You might want to look st that. In the past it was available at Toys R Us.

Back in the late 70’s my brother and I played Time Travel Baseball. I see there is a new version of that

I played "Long Ball" as a kid. Wasn't quite that young though.

I recommend Strat-o-Matic. Played my first board game with dice and cards when my friends and I were 10 years old.

My just-turned-8 year old is playing the basic version of Strat-O-Matic. While he hasn't played it without me, the only parts he may stumble by himself are the special plays (X-Chart, Stealing, gbA, etc.), but he could always just ignore anything special. He picked up the rest really quickly.

There's a lot you can do just pilfering some dice from another game already in the house.
