This is actually interesting because it shows the effect of the changes in the game. Because you only get two roles you tend to put those for when you are in the lead. Well, Hal tends (I guess) to focus on conserving your pitchers for those situations unless you specify otherwise. And now you cannot specify otherwise (or at least having difficulty). So what happens once you get behind is that Hal throws in these bad relief pitchers and your team implodes.
Game 22
Familia 7th Inn 1 run behind
Sparkman 8th Inn 5 runs behind
Banuelos 8th Inn 6 runs behind
Game 23
Familia 6th 5 runs behind
Ramirez 7th 6 runs behind
Game 24
Florio tied right-handed specialist
Sparkman 11 Tied
First, I believe you only had one appearance the whole series where the role was specified. Secondly, the questionable decisions by Hal were Familia in Game 22 in the 7th with a one-run deficit and Florio and Sparkman with the game tied in extra innings in game 24. I think you can assume that Hal will use your best pitchers when you are in the lead and crummy pitchers when you're not. Maybe in extra innings it wants longer guys to go? I don't know what logic routines Hal uses for extra innings but overall I m am having to think about this myself, because I have seen my teams blow up, too.
Solutions. I would put Walden at Middle Man and Behind and Late. And F8. And Gott at Set-up and Tied Late. And F8. Then I would replace Florio with . 5 guy to get you extra money. Take that money and replace Noel Ramirez with a legitimate closer, a C3 at least. Not going to get a great guy at 2.5 million but decent. That guy you put at clsoer and and Tied extra innings. Get rid of any left or right specialties. I don't trust Hal to handle those properly. Just use the designations listed above and you should be mostly covered, though if someone gets tired there still might be issues but at least when they're not you have covered all of the situations where Hal can screw up. And remember your starters are almost average 7.5 innings a game, so you only got 1.5 innings for your relief to cover. Good Luck!
