I notice that teams are dropping players without picking one up before the waiver period has expired. Does that free up money for the waiver claims? Is that the purpose? I assume I can't drop a catcher unless I have three.
Also can I make contingent claims? Add a catcher, drop an expensive catcher. Next, add a catcher, drop the same expensive catcher.

You need 2 catchers on your squad at all times, so yes.

Yes. There is no limit on the number of waiver claims you can make.
