New Bullpen Problems

There are 22 bullpen settings. Since each reliever can ONLY FILL TWO spots, five relievers can cover 10 of the 22 roles. That means Hal (The computer) is making most of the bullpen decisions for YOU.
There is always a trade-off, and this is what we have given up in order to CURB (not end) the super reliever.
You would have to carry 11 relief pitchers to fill all 22 roles. That is absurd.
However, if they were to fix this minor oversight, and let the relief pitchers fill 3-4 roles, we would have our control back.
Now don't get me wrong, I am not struggling at all with the new bullpen, I am kicking ass. But do we really want LESS CONTROL, when (and this I can promise you) it will not even end the super reliever, it will just curb him.

Besides, if you look at it logically and realistically, even in real life relief pitchers can obviously pitch in more than two situations. Any reliever can pitch mop up, behind and late, middle relief, etc all in the same series. Even closers pitch when tied and late, or tied and extra innings, plus closing situations. It's just common sense to let the relievers be used in 3 to 4 roles, not 2 and not 6 or 7.
It's an easy fix, but I suppose it is more likely that people will fill up cruise ships this summer.. I just don't understand why this wasn't thought of??? It's pretty basic and logical stuff.

I just use closer and set up, and maybe a LH or RH specialist if i have guys that fit that role ( I try and get balanced RP with low WHIPs though so i don't have to worry about mis-use) and that's it. If HAL is making most of the decisions anyway, why fight the machine??

HALs not even using my RPs two games in a row much of the time if a RP goes more than 2 innings--so even your two assigned rolls are being ignored by HAL much of the time.

SOM said they were trying to make the bullpen a little more realistic. MLB teams would have a RP take a couple days off after a long outing as well.

Since when is SOM online about "realistic". There is nothing realistic about hitter use--but as usual good pitchers get limited, 100AB hitters are full use.

Oh, you can get over 150 innings out of a RP that only pitched 35 innings in real life too if you want to.

I'm not a huge fan of the bullpen settings in general. I wish we could just rank our pitchers in order (you would probably need a ranking versus both RH and LH hitters) and HAL would select the highest ranked pitcher available.
I've had no problem getting my best RPs plenty of innings by setting them to middle man and setup. However when they aren't available, HAL is consistently selecting my 5th or 6th RP ahead of my 3rd or 4th ... I've tried playing around with the settings but it's not working too well for me.
Honestly they should have just left the old settings alone and made pitchers unavailable more often based upon usage.

BINGO
--plus, seems me, they aren't available much more often.

I don't now what you guys are whining about. Super reliever has been a problem and the new bullpen roles are curbing the problem. The relievers are pitching less.
And whoever feels that the hitters are getting all of the advantages of the game are wrong. Hitters in Strat are often injured, but SP and relievers are unbelievably resistant to injuries.
The new bullpen rules (and reliever pricing in ATG9) are a welcomed change in my opinion.
