How many teams does a typical player own in a given cycle?

Not sure what you mean by “a given cycle”.

If you mean a certain player set, ie., a 20xx set versus another 20xx set, your best bet is to check out the manager records under the “community” tab of your hoe screen. The quantity of teams owned by each manager varies broadly.
