As a general rule, you never, ever drop players. Sometimes it's hard to fight that instinct... "I'm in last place, I've got to do something to fix my team!" But you're only lowering the value of your team with every transaction, due to the salary penalty. You're replacing your players with cheaper players, and it just makes the situation worse.
Remember, this isn't real baseball, and these aren't humans. Yelich has an excellent card, and it never changes... If he's not hitting, it's just bad luck (or a combination of other factors such as your ballpark, your opponents' pitchers, etc.) Replacing him with a cheaper player is never the answer. And replacing him with a minor-leaguer would be insane.
All you can do is draft your team wisely, be patient, and hope that the dice will be kind!
