when I played many years back, we played super advanced and the fielding charts were white, red, black. SS and 2B had more chances of a direct out or hit on the chart vs looking at E rating. This compared to 1B and 3B, which quickly went to E rating.

on the new charts, do E ratings count as much for 1B and 3B as they used to? ie, can you get away with a 3 or 4 with low E rating or not

At 3rd, each fielding point above 1 equals 9 hits. At 1st, it's 6 hits.

3rd:
1e0 = 0 hits
2e0 = 9 hits ( =~ 1e9 )
3e0 = 18 hits
4e0 = 27 hits ( =~ 2e18, etc )

So you can get the approx equivalent of lower rating / higher e's

SS=21 hits/rating factor, 2B = 18 hits.

3's, 4's and higher e guys tend to give up S2/E2 type more, so that should prob be factored in ( I don't have those precisely, tho they can be calc'd off the adv rating online charts ) .

How bad is a 3,4 or 5 in OF?

A guy without backup CF lost his to injury. In 6 games, he has not had a CFx (luck)

Also, would it use the same arm and e rating for CF that it uses for him in LF?
