Wind blowing in at Wrigley, and out in San Fran. I can see Angels stadium being popular this season.

Yeah, I gotta say however that something is wrong with SOM's calculations to say that Oracle is better for LHB HRs than RHB. Probably has something to do with the fact that Yaz and Belt play for the Giants

I have long thought Strat ballpark ratings were flawed. Potent lineups lead to high ballpark numbers and a weak lineup or a lot of hitters with off years leads to low ballpark numbers. To me unless there is a physical change to a ballpark the numbers year to year should not change much.

My understanding, taken from a long ago article published in Strat Fan magazine, was that the numbers were based on a 3 year average. But that could have changed.

Yeah, they say that, but explain what happened to Oracle this year then? It's completely flawed.

I concur..The ballparks ratings reflect the changes in the home team lineup more than changes in the ballpark itself. The Cubs didn't have as many home run hitters this year, and their number reflect it. San Fran added power to its batting order thus the uptick in numbers.

Perhaps true, but SF actually changed their park dimensions last year (much to my chagrin in at least one keeper league).

They used to be primarily built off of Bill James's Ball Park Effects and it was smoothed out by using 3 year average. There was an error in the calculation several years ago so they could have gone to other factors. Definitely thing the smaller sample from 2020 and the fact there were a couple teams using alternate stadiums may lead to some of the outliers you are seeing. Keep in mind there were 5 stadiums that have humidors, and they plan on bumping that to 10 in 2021. They plan on making changes to the ball as well, so the BP numbers may see some significant vhanges.
