AL WARfare League Needs One Manager
Posted: Thu Jun 03, 2021 12:06 amAL WARfare is an AL-only, 12 team franchise-themed draft league, which tonight just finished up its 20/21 regular season. The Oakland A’s will be available for the 21/22 campaign.
Our next preseason kicks off in mid-July. The process goes like this, generally:
First, each team owner will select any 6 players currently on the real-life 40 man roster of his franchise. We call these players each team’s “franchise 6”
Second, each team owner will declare 6 free agent keepers from his 20/21 roster.
Third, we conduct a four-round free agent draft, to get each team to 16 players.
All of this is done prospectively; with the current MLB season only 2/3 complete, we’ll be drafting for the unleashed card set to be released next March.
After the cards drop, we complete the draft from all remaining free agents.
Finally, each owner declares two prospects from the minor league system of his franchise.
In April/May we play one SIM season, during which owners have to keep tabs on the SIM usage of their players, making sure none exceed their real life totals prior to game 124.
There are additional draft rules intended to level the playing field between strong and weak franchises, and to deal with free agents lost in the “franchise 6” claiming step described above.
