Let's talk divisions

Why do we play so many more games within our division? It doesn't make sense.

A much better system would be two divisions of six teams each. It would be a much fairer system with two division winners and two wild cards and a more even schedule.

There is no reason to play so many division games at the expense of not playing the other teams as much.

It's not like these are cross town division rivalries.

It would eliminate 4 great teams being stuck in one division. Or 4 lousy teams stuck in one division. No more undeserving playoff teams. And no more 3rd place teams winning 95 games but losing a playoff spot to a 78 win team.

There is no advantage in having such small divisions with such a silly emphasis on division play.

They could have gone with the 1969-94 format with two 6 team divisions, 18 games vs five teams in division--12 games times six teams out of division for a 90-72 spread--just like now, with 2 division winners and best two runners up in playoffs.

I assume the three divisions was chosen because the on-line game was developed after MLB had gone to three divisions. (but there were more than 12 teams per league)

That would be fine with me. I just wish they would use a little common sense.
