Home Run Derby

The SOM 365 teams are becoming more like home run derby contests....Pick the most homer friendly park and the players who hit the most homeruns per dollar....

Just not compelling baseball anymore.

SOM needs to come up with another setting despite issue more intentional walks. Like pitching around huge homwrun threats late/early in a game....Not necessarily a walk (just an increased chance of a walk).

But John, isn't that similar to the way MLB is right now? Hit .195, but hit 35HR and you are a star?

I do agree it would be nice to be able to pitch around certain hitters as well. More/Less Intentional walks settings only seem to be of marginal benefit. More likely they will intentionally walk a hitter with a better clutch rating, than a hitter who bombs the ball.

Here’s a pitching and defense team of mine that won 105. 2nd lowest in HRs in the league. Was outhomered by its opponents by nearly 80. You can certainly win in many different ways.

2022 Speed team w/107 wins:

https://365.strat-o-matic.com/team/1757074

Base Running set to 'Very Aggressive'

Granted this my best season result pretty much ever but again, can be done.
------------

Here is a 2022 team, sort of 'on base team w/moderate power':

https://365.strat-o-matic.com/team/1758551

It is hinged around the massive 2022 Matt Carpenter card, w/Soto planted directly in front of him. You could do the same thing in 2023 using the NelVel card.

I like to play a card like that in a pitcher's park cuz NelVel/Carpenter have 'over power' -- if you take away all the BPHR, still have an abundance of power, but decisively hurts opposing moderatel level HR dependent hitters like KTucker, Betts, Goldschmidt etc. Playing at Tropicana, the team trounced opponents in hits and walks and was still able to hold it's own in HRs ( due to 'overpower' of Carpenter and Trout were able to overcome the HR suppression of the Trop but not other HR hitters ).

------------

Just think of different ways to defang those very common all hr teams playing in HR parks.

My take on this is to find pitchers with no ballpark and limited 'Hard' homerun chances. Does not work out well for all but It doesn't hurt my own hitters. I'm just a prospect manager but have played the card version many years in the 60s and 70s. Recently retired so looking at my favorite pastime.
