team & relief advice

PostSun Dec 02, 2012 9:47 am

any thoughts on this team - a theme league entry.
especially on how to set up my relief corps.
it's a non-DH league, I can only choose from Cin EXP and Boston EXP

When you face my team, be sure to use Hume as your closer 8-)

I'm afraid your starters are gonna get whiplash...........I have used Gary Bell and Ray Culp a couple of times recently with Red Sox teams, and Culp outperformed Bell both times. Not Cy Young worthy, but adequate as a 4th starter

A much bigger issue is that you just CAN't play a 4 in CF, especially in Fenway 67. I'd use Eric Davis in CF and Rose in RF, and maybe save money using cheap Nomar at SS. And, as Andy says, your pitchers have too many ballpark shots on their cards - but you don't really have a lot of options there. Maybe find a way to get Gary Nolan into the rotation if you're not going to use Clemens.

Other possible money-saving options are using 2nd cards for Perez and Bench, and using the 3.11 Myers card instead of Franco.

I was going to mention Eric Davis, too. Both of his cards are good . . . '86 he's an absolute burner, 80 steals and only 11 caught. He's practically a AAA. He'll hit 30 HRs for you too . . . no Foster, to be sure, but he'll do quite well for you.

Having played a few games in Fenway 67 I would insure my team included:

Bench 5.78 C
Larkin SS
Morgan 10.26
Geronimo - Either one depending on cash needs
Boggs 9.60
Yaz
Dwight Evans 7.44
Ortiz
Lee May 6L
I woud be using Sambito Hassler and Schiraldi as cheap unbalanced pitchers as relievers with perhaps one good reliever to suck up most of the relief innings. I am assuming you cannot use Pedro or Clemens since your franchise doesn't have the most expensive version

he can actually use both clemens and pedro as long as it's a red sox card. i am in this league so i will keep my thoughts to myself, but yeah a 4 in CF will totally not backfire.
