cy young vs mike caldwell....the atg bingo lottery continues

Young, Cy (1901) S9* 5 14 0 0 159.1 190 120 101 68 80 23 +1 0 1 5.70 1.62
Caldwell, Mike (1980) S7* 9 7 0 0 129.1 173 98 89 57 30 23 0 3 2 6.19 1.78

100 mil, dh, ATG6, come on.....9 plus mil cy young has always perplexed me, he is the worst for me on several teams I have used.

this was also the team where pedro bourbon prob had the best ever stat line, 9 games, 8 innings, 24 runs on 26 hits, 6 hr's to start the season.

is there any, any atg set and salary value that is not just a bingo lottery?

No, it's all bingo. And it looks like you won with Guidry and Bender - combined 25-13 with an ERA around 3.5, with an average defense in a 100M hitters park - that's much better than average. I'd say on this team, it's averaged out.

What are you crying about? Your team is 11 games over. 500 with a run differential of +2. To me, this screams that your team has been very lucky.

Seriously, some guys are going to do better than you think and others worse. It's fairly random in the short term, as in several seasons. I'd say that Bender and Guidry were both doing much better than their norms in that ballpark, and Caldwell has a winning record. I doubt you have much to complain about.

At a quick glance, of your four SP, Young has received the worst percentage of ballpark singles. If he had Caldwell's success rate, then he would have allowed 7 fewer singles. Those singles extend innings and could result in another couple of runs. Additionally, with Young on the hill, opponents have stolen 17 bases (12 more than with Caldwell pitching) and been caught only thrice (5 CS with Caldwell hurling). That's probably 10 or 11times where a runner went from first to second. So, 10 or 11 times a runner has been in scoring position that was not already. Cy has the fewest gidp of your SP too, and no doubt that's a reflection on the runners moving up on him. Young has also received the worst run support of your SP: 4.41 r/gs, where Caldwell gets 7.46 r/gs. Young has the worst e-rating of your SP, and your pitchers have accouted for 12 errors. Young has the most unearned runs of your SP, with 20, so undoubtedly he's also allowed extra runs and runners due to his own fielding deficiency.

Extra hits, extra runners in scoring position, fewer dps to kill rallies, and horrible run support means poor stats for a good pitcher.
