Which Mays ?

PostThu Mar 14, 2013 9:13 pm

I've had good and bad with all three cards. Gotta love his arm and 1-17 running rate.

62 - Awesome power. Best fielder. Non-# homers makes him one of the best power hitters for big parks. Guaranteed 60 plus homers in bomber parks. But - can really fall down on avg/obp. Hard to figure where to bat him vs. righties in 140/200 million leagues. WAY too many doubles plays, but does better in the clutch than the cheaper versions.

54 - Minus 5 arm & best obp. Solid big park power, but # homers make him much less desirable in big parks. Great righty/lefty balance. Does not hit into dp's. Poor clutch rating makes him more of a top of the order hitter. I like him at leadoff, and even more in the 2 hole.

55 - Middle ground card combines power, balance, speed and decent obp. Minus 4 arm. Better suited for bomber park. Probably best bang for buck of the three. I like him hitting fifth or sixth in 100 mil or higher leagues, cleanup in 80 mil or lower.

I like the cheapest Mays the most. Now the cheapest Willie Mays is still all gold plated and everything so cheapest means 10.42.

Its just got alot more power than the '54 one with the intriguing .345 average.

Back in ATG2, '62 Mays was about the best thing ever. Now, those double-plays seem ludicrous.
