HAL's PH Strategy

PostMon Aug 05, 2013 11:32 pm

Wondering if some of you can help me with something. I'm in an ATG7, 80M 12 team auto league, and my ace pitcher is the 10.79M Ed Walsh.

On more than one occasion, Hal has pinch hit for Walsh at a time where I never would have. For example, in a 3-3 tie, with two out, in the top of the 8th, no one on base, and having thrown only 108 pitches.

I would much rather leave my ace SP in the game in these situations - can you tell me how I can edit my settings for Walsh so this kind of thing doesn`t happen again - I also recall another game where Walsh gave up 4 runs in the 2nd inning - and got pulled for a pinch hitter.

Thanks!

Try setting Walsh to don't relieve before F8 or F7, this should prevent him from being taken out too soon.

Others may have a better solution, but this usually works for me.

good luck!

Thanks. I'll have to try this. He was pinch hit for again in the 7th - and again, my bullpen (which has actually been quite solid), didn't get the job done.

Meanwhile, in another game, I was tied in the top of the 8th (4-4), got 2 on, and HAL let Don Drysdale hit for himself. (And he ending up hitting a 3 run shot to put me in front). I think that was the next game (after the 2nd game when Walsh got PH for earlier than I'd have liked).

Well, tried setting him as F7, and he got pinch hit for after 7 innings, and around 100 pitches. Now trying F8. Just a little frustrating - clearly pitch count is not a factor - but this is 3 out of the last 4 starts or so when I wouldn't have wanted HAL to go to the bullpen.

Lower it to F0, but be prepared to have him PH for anyway in any close game...late. HAL will always PH if the game is close, the F rating only seems to apply on the mound, not in the lineup.
