So my team was playing at home the other night when Howard Johnson, the starting third baseman against righties for the opponent, went down with an injury late in the first game. His platoon partner, Jim Tabor, who plays 3rd base against lefties, comes into the game, a 4e33.
Now, I've been playing the online game for upwards of three and a half years and figure I have a pretty good handle on the ATG player set, but I must confess that I've never noticed this Tabor character before. Also, considering that he's MUCH better against lefties, he's not the kind of guy I would usually worry about given my all righty starting rotation.
Well, apparently Tabor was insulted that I had no idea who he was. So what does he do to my overconfident bunch of fatcats? Well, he got a base hit in his only at bat in the game Johnson was injured, which didn't hurt my team at all. But in the next two games he went wild, leading his team to a pair of victories while going 8 for 9 with 4 runs scored, 2 RBI and a walk. On the series he was 9 for 10. Not too shabby for a platoon backup.
OK, Mr. Tabor, I know who you are now! I surrender! Bring on George Brett! Please!
The more I play this game, the less I know!
