Roger Bresnahan--Passed Balls??

PostTue Sep 10, 2013 2:51 pm

Currently using the $7.13 Bresnahan card for the second time and decided to look at his passed balls. In 124 games the (pb-14) Bresnahan has 36 passed balls. Then I looked at the one completed season and he had 58 PBs in 150 games. 94 PBs in 274 games?? :? Anybody got a clue why this is happening? Or is this common with all catchers and I'm the last to figure it out :ugeek: Thanks for any input.

36 in 122 games for me in a current season. Plus 25 games worth of injuries ... wonderful hitting, but that 1 rating should come with an asterisk.

Posted this but for some reason did not show up.

Baseball-reference.com shows him with 1 pb in 11 games as a catcher in 1903. Am not going to bother typing up full explanation I submitted earlier. Suffice to say when strat deals with a small sample size historically ratings and card wise player gets downgraded.

I was in a league about a year ago where Bresnahan had 44 passed balls (not for my team, fortunately).

As noted, using Baseball-reference.com, the one PB in 11 games for 1903, if projected for 162 games would be 14.7. Is that how Strat arrived at using 14 on his 1903 card?

His actual 1905 stats were 18 PB in 87 games caught, which would project to 33.5 over 162 games. But his 1905 card shows 7 PB. How can that be? Just wondering.

not sure, but sometimes it seems that older players who played with mitten/pillow gloves have their errors 'normalized' to make them equivalent to more modern players, but having said that, some of the NeLs with 1's and 2's on defense have some big e #s.

for example, Johnny Evers in '06 historically (baseball ref) was charged w/ 44 errors, but is an e20 in our game...
