BAKER BOWL PICTURES

PostFri Nov 02, 2012 12:22 am

Baker Bowl was the home of the Philadelphia Phillies from 1887-1938
Field dimensions
Left Field - 341 ft (104 m)
Center Field - 408 ft (124 m)
Right-Center - 300 ft (91 m)
Right Field - 280 ft (85 m)

The Right Field wall was a combination of different materials, which grew to 60 feet high (40 foot wall and a 20 foot screen), while standing only 280 feet from home plate.

Reminder of the oft-quoted Phillies team critcism: "The Phillies use Lifebuoy....and they still stink!"

Appears to be from the 1915 World Series, won by the Red Sox 4 games to one over the Phillies. The Phillies had extra bleachers put in for the series, and in the deciding game 5, Harry Hooper hit two home runs and Duffy Lewis hit one longball into those "cheap seats". Both of Hooper's actually bounced, but under the rules of the day, they were home runs.

This makes you realize how guys like Klein hit 40 HR's in a season.
