Dazzy Vance(7-8) was on top of his game in Big Hurt as he tossed a beauty of a no-hitter against the Sioux Falls Get's Back Up. The Big Hurt HOF won by a score of 11 to 0.
Vance had an afternoon to remember. Heck, it's one we'll all remember! What a game at US Cellular Field '05! He walked 3 Sioux Falls batters. The Big Hurt players and coaches started to leave Vance alone with his thoughts after the game reached the 7th inning. By the time the 9th inning rolled around, you could hear a pin drop every time he went to his wind-up - and an explosion after every out. Big Hurt managed 11 hits in their victory.
Sandy Koufax(3-7) was hit with the loss. He was touched for 4 homeruns in his 8 innings of work. 'You probably have a better chance of winning the lottery than this happening,' said Vance, 'I don't expect it to sink in for awhile,' he said. 'I'm numb right now, I'm overwhelmed.'
