Why do people remember lies more than the truth?

Two Buddhist monks were walking in a forest, when they came to a small river. A woman came up to them and asked them if they could help her across. Without saying a word, one of the monks lifted the woman into his arms, carried her across the river, and let her down on the other side. The two monks walked on in silence for many miles. Finally, the second monk stopped and said, "How could you carry that woman across the river? You know in our school we are not supposed to touch women." The first monk replied, "I let the woman down on the banks of the river. You are still carrying her."
