ATG Draft Strategy?

PostFri Aug 01, 2014 11:32 pm

I was hoping that some of the vets here could offer some advice on how to approach drafting in the ATG tour. I never seem to get the players I desire the most in my drafts.

be cynicaly realistic. If you REALLY want the player, you probably won't get him so move on and list option "B" in that spot

Another strategy I liked to use was the "who is the consolation"?

I track what my draft list is in a spreadsheet. And for each player I missed I document who the replacement was.
A card who consistently get a poor consolation trends toward the top while cards with good consolation slides down.

For example early in ATG when the pool was much smaller if you drafted Mays you might get Combs as a consolation. Not wanting Combs Mays goes to the top to lessen chances of getting him. On the other hand If I draft say Honus Wagner and consistently get Yount as a consolation slides down since the consolation is acceptable if I miss.

End result is an overall better drafted team with fewer holes to fill.

What cap are you talking about?

At 60 MM pretty much you get everyone you want.

At 200 MM, par is about 14 players from your draft card. And there are a number of guys (Hornsby, Ruth, Bonds, Gibson Foxx, Mantle) where my experience has been you either put them at 1 or in the teens because you're not getting them at 2 very often.

The above posters make some good points and it really does depend on what type of draft you are talking about. I will go ahead and assume you mean ATG8, but are you talking live draft or auto draft, and at which salary cap? At the lower caps, 60, 80 (even 100 million) you will get most of the guys you are after. At the higher caps it is much harder to get the real expensive and highly sought after cards and that is when more strategy may come into play. Don't hesitate to ask more questions, people are willing to help.Good luck and have fun.

Sorry, I'm talking ATG8 and I'm thinking $100 and $140.
