Yeah it would be great to see more transparency and letting us know that the linked "rules" do not necessarily apply to our version of the game. Case in point, even for the best pitchers in the game, I never set them to go lower than F7 as it's just throwing kerosene on the fire. Originally I said that it "seems like" all rolls winds up on the hitters card, the lower down in fatigue a pitcher goes, but who are we to say that this could likely really be happening. All we know is, it aint like the rules we are provided. And only a handful of us here know the super advanced whatever thingy rules are. I certainly don't.

And who knew that when you run out of pitchers, it chooses from the most expensive starter left on your bench, regardless of what fatigue level pitcher you wind up putting into the game ?

Needed, check boxes to not pull PITCHERS out for a PH - IF I WANT TO and maybe some kind of way to be able to choose what starters come in when I run out of pitchers. Maybe the one who is the most rested ? Of course, in my case, having the FIRST OPTION in my situation would have kept Wilhelm in the game as he still had 3 more innings left in the tank.

I don't think anyone has really come up with a good reason why we still play, when so much manipulation and strategy goes just into taking steps to prevent the game engine from doing stupid things.

Valen, thanks for you post directly following my last - good information.

back to the transparency issue at the root of the thread and the question of why we still play:

well, that's gotta be a personal decision - I know I have taken a lot of sabbaticals after the leagues I was in just p*ssed me off too much because a style I found pretty successful in ftf or solitaire just didn't work here at all

I would say my current attitude is like Dr. Strangelove (how I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb)

have given up trying to win on D, triples (the best play in baseball - compare a bases loaded triple, w/ 13 guys on the move full speed(15 if you include the base coaches, 16, if you include the ondeck batter 'coaching' slide or up at the plate as he should, 20 if you include the umps doing their jobs and 22 if its in the Series) to a slam - 4 guys trotting around the bases, yawn) and pitching and have had (to my eternal shame) a little more success than I had had previously.

but, bottom line, as much as i hate to see a good player(manager) book, I get it. bon voyage, auf wiedersehen, and, like old-timers day at the ballpark, you are always welcome if you decide to come back

I was active on the Sporting News site/board about a decade ago and have not been back since. Mostly that was for reasons not game-related, but most if not all of the issues you guys are talking about here were present back then.

A number of us eventually got tired of it and grouped together to form our own off-site, online leagues. I ran several Netplay leagues where we drafted from a single past season with a few Hall of Famers thrown in for extra spicy-ness. Once we did the Negro Leaguers, back before the game company had officially come out with card for them. Some individual researcher had created the cards. We called that The Negro Leagues Time Machine Project.

We had some serious fun with this approach. Sure, there were some difficulties, but none that caused any real problems. Netplay worked fine for us back then. I haven't used it in years, but I would hope that they haven't somehow made it worse in the last 10 years. I have been considering the possibility of creating and running another such league, but I'm unsure as to whether I could find enough guys to play.

Some of the kingpins we had involved in those leagues:
agabriel
gt8017b
mocrash
rjoh
Homies
HK Mossy
daman
MajorDeegan
ggnringo
Munich_Man

Not sure of how many of those guys are still around.
