Get a six sided dice and roll it 100 times. Write down your results. Then do it again and do the same. Every time you will get different results to varying degrees with the chance of vast differences. Do it 10,000 times and you will get results that are extremely even. Add the factor that this game includes 3 six sided dice and varying cards that are all different and you get a lot of random chance. Nev, did you play the actual board game with dice very often in the past?

In a galaxy far far away? It has been several years for me too but I probably played it regularly for at least 15 years of my life. In that time I have watched the dice do things that I would not have believed if I didn't see it. Random chance is a very funny thing. Computer generated random chance just makes us question it a bit more than when we see the real dice rolled.

Back in the dice and card days, I used to utter the phrase "now I've seen it all!" with regularity. By the time I reached my mid thirties, I eliminated this phrase from my vocabulary; as I realized that there was no way I was ever gonna "see it all" :D

How do I know the game is for the overwhelming majority being random? Because if all one did was go buy Joe the Jet's ratings and use those exclusively to buy teams in divisions, and further if you analyzed the whole league you will do even better, you end up winning around .525 - .550 because of all the mopes who think a card is jinxed. \

Now I would never buy Joe the Jet's ratings because what is the point? that is like using a computer chess program to play on online foe, sure I'd win more but there is absolutely no intellectual challenge or purpose to the game at that point and means I must only be looking for accolades from invisible online people about gamer prowess I don't actually possess.

But on the other hand Joe the Jet sells to quite a few people so there must be a market for invisible accolades

Agreed. If you have to pay money to be able to put together a winning team it does not say much for your skill level or knowledge of this game. Cookie cutter managers are always beatable over the long run because they do not know how to adapt.
