I have a slightly different take on adding players: I'd far rather see cards for players who are NOT represented or under-represented (say, like Mickey Vernon or Cass Michaels) than more cards for those who are over-represented. Willie Mays has five seasons already. Why do we need a sixth? Aaron has four and Nolan Ryan, Tommy John, Aparicio and Williams three each. I wouldn't mind seeing a second Mostil card, but would balk at a third card for J.R. Richard, Belle, Stargell and Colavito.
I mostly agree with that comment. About cards "under-represented", I have in mind players who had good careers or had a few great years but whose cards show salaries like 2M-3M.... I think of Dwayne Murphy, for example, who had his best years between 1979-1982, had over .380 of on-base a few seasons...fangraphs has him among top 10 in WAR, but yet, we only have his 1983 card at 3.06M.
Mike Greenwell, who was an all-star in 1988 and 1989, finished second in MVP vote in 1988, but yet we only have his 1990 card, tagged at 1.55M or so...."believe me son, he was a star" doesn't sound too convincing...
About cards "over-represented", I might have one objection: we don't have any Seattle Mariners card of A Rodriguez....I still know by heart his numbers for his first season 54 doubles, 36 homeruns...If my memory serves me well, I believe Strat had given him a ss-3 rating back then...
