Which Kershaw and Pedro?

PostFri Aug 25, 2017 1:02 pm

WE are blessed with these choices. The non * cards are obviously better, but it's the difference between 60 and 80 starts, With 12 games played and 150 to go. We have Sutton and making use of his asterisk status would reduce pedro/kershaw starts even further. Our other 3 starters are non asterisk, S. Jones, J. Fernandez and C. Sale. They are "spot" starters with Jose slated for 11 starts, Sale with 13 and Jones whenever he is needed. The current (*) arrangement brings 41 starts for Pedro and 37 for Kershaw after sliding him here and there to max his starts vs L teams. Even here there are 4 out of place starts for Jose/Sale. With Pedro and Kershaw as non asterisk there would be many more. But their cards are so good.....Advice?

Personally, I like the 2000 Pedro and 2016 Kershaw (the non-* cards). I'm surprised they are FAs - those cards can be hard to come by. Since you already have 3 non-* starters, filling out a 5-man rotation seems to make sense.

They are Not FA's. They are my top two starters, currently in * form. The drop penalty is 5 % for another 20 or so games. We have played 15 g so far, before tonight's series. The cap is 225 Mil. Question- Say I pitch the asterisk Kershaw in game 18, and then drop/exchange him for the non asterisk Kershaw, paying the drop penalty- Can I start the new Kershaw in game 19? (I know that if I bring the old one back he has to be on the roster for 3 games since I cut him when he needed 3 rest games)

To me, unless you play in a Minute Maid-Hilltop kinda stadium, it's a no brainer--go with the 4-day rest cards for both of them. They are among the three best cards of the set (along with Maddux). Plus, you don't lose much in losing starts from Sutton since his replacement starters are quite solid. Because Slim Jones can pitch in relief, I would probably put him mostly in the relief, with a few spot starts against teams loaded of lefties.

Come on, Steven. I was just asking a question. Cheater? One of the great things about playing strat here is that there is no cheating. Everybody plays by the same set of rules. When a team obtains a starter through trade, that starter is available for the very first game, even if he had pitched for his previous team the game before. I have seen relief pitchers such as Murray and others pitch 250++ innings, and hitters such as Gates Brown get over 400 ab. These things are common here because they are within the rules. There are no ab or inning limits here, so everyone accepts that, AND uses it to their advantage. It is just a game.
