Instead of 10 years and 350 million, you sign for 2 years 70 million.
And if you produce someone else will sign you again in 2 years.
I'm sure the Angels wished they did that with Pujols.

Not unrelated.....The other 3 major sports with salary caps will soon see the caps explode when gambling revenue is added to the pool. MLB players are guaranteed nothing.

I wouldn't want to see a cap without a floor. The range between the floor and a cap might get more parity. The floor would stop tanking and trying to field a $30M team. Could be a sort of "Bird rule" put into place, and other minute details to make it work. If this is a good idea, would the union go for it?
