Reb Russell

Reb Russell has a pretty good pitching card in this set from his years with the White Sox. But in 1919, coming off a year where he had gone 7-5, 2.60 but only threw 124 innings after having averaged over 230 per season for his career, he pitched to only two batters, walking one and allowing a hit. He never pitched in the majors again.

But he reinvented himself, and returned as a RF for the Pirates in the middle of the 1932 season. He played 6o games in 1932, and 94 in 1933. Conveniently, this is 154 games, or a full season in that era. How did he do, you ask?

His combined batting line for those 154 games was .323/.377/.568. He hit 21 HR and drove in 133, while stealing 7 of 10 bases.

But he never played again in the major leagues. His SABR biography (linked from his bbref page) gives a stark picture of how MLB worked in the 1920's.
