Double-switch question

Hey guys, quick question. I just drafted a team (non-DH league) and I've got Cal Ripken at SS. I'm thinking of picking up Roy Smalley Sr. as a cheap pinch-hitter... he's obviously not a very good hitter, but I figure he's discounted a bit because of the atrocious glove. So my thinking is that his fielding won't matter because he'll never play a minute at short, but then I got to thinking about double-switches. Would HAL actually swap out Ripken for someone as bad as Smalley? And if so, does it happen often enough to worry about it? Thanks in advance.

I think Ripken is save but I would check off the dont pinch run box .
