catcher has a -3 arm, Pitcher hold is -4, what is the lowest possible hold number deducted from the basestealer? flipside, Pitcher is a +9, see Syndagard, catcher is a +3, base runner is a 20-16, can the baserunner still be thrown out? what does the roll have to be to throw out the runner? thanks
Maximum a battery can be is -5 to +5 regardless of pitcher's hold or catcher's arm. So, as an example, if Syndergaard is +9 and your catcher is +3, max battery is +5. Holding runner on 1st adjusts that -2 to steal rating. If your battery is -5, holding runner on 1st brings that to -7 to steal. If base runner is held, even with a 20 for good lead, maximum is 19 or 5% chance of being thrown out (so if defense rolls a 20, runner is out). If runner is not held, then steal rating can go as high as 20. Hope that helps.
