Cheap starting pitcher staffs

PostThu Aug 26, 2021 6:00 pm

Hi

I have seen a ton of guys try this, but I never have.

A starting pitcher staff, where no one is more than $3.99M

Any tips?

Thanks in advance.

My friend The Marshall is experimenting the concept with his Hill Country Bandits...

With surprising great success close to the half-season point...

His highest paid starter is Kirk Rueter at $1.57M...

Are you looking for a list of good pitchers? Or how to do it?

If the latter, it is not super complicated. There are a number pitchers that are pretty good bargains 4 million and under. They roughly fall into two categories, pitchers that are vulnerable to the long ball, but will have low whip, and those who will give up singles, but keep the ball in the park. Match them to the appropriate park (pitcher in the former, slugger in the latter) and then load up on park appropriate hitters. I typically run a little heavier on the bullpen, but the same logic applies.

I am decidedly mediocre at 365, but have had some success looking for guys whose numbers are probably inflated by pitching in hitter's parks and sticking them in Petco or Braves field. The problem is they have to pitch on the road too haha.

this league is an anomaly. the 4 teams with the best records all have inexpensive staffs, only 2 parks Minute Maid(league best record) and League Park will allow HR's and to only one side. so all #HR's r outs. most leagues have a more power parks. couple of those in your division and.....

Do you go into pitcher preferences and make them all Quick Hook and 6 innings max?

I use fatigue settings rather than hard inning limits. Why? Because cumulative bullpen fatigue is also a thing and even with a thinner starting staff, I want them to eat innings and get complete games when possible. I just don’t count on it.

On this, I know a lot of players will list don't remove before fatigue all the way down to F0. I have never gone beyond F7. What is the most reasonable fatigue level that still has them pitching like some semblance of themselves?
