HUGHIE JENNINGS !!! REALLY SOM !!!

PostSat May 14, 2022 9:11 pm

I did a little research...

In 1896, Hughie Jennings played 130 of 132 regular season games for the Baltimore Orioles...

He had 602 plate appearances, 521 AB, 19 walks and 51 HBP...

How in heaven's name can he be rated injury 1 and be subject to a 15 gamestay on the disabled list...

I just can't understand SOM reasoning...

It's not only very unfair but so far away from reality...

It's about time SOM revised their injury ratings...

By the way in 1896 Jennings' teammates included John McGraw, Willie Keeler and Joe Kelley.

No wonder the Orioles were 3 times National League champs from 1894 to 1896...

Maybe Hughie should stop putting his head in front of pitches 5 times a game.

they used the same illogic with the Negro League Players.
They didn't base the rating on how many games players missed due to injury, but instead, on the number of games that they had data for, which from the Negro Leagues was spotty at best---hence why most of the Negro league players have poor injury ratings---not because they were injured but because STRAT did not have the box scores.
The reality is, that many of the Negro leaguers played in far more games per year than their MLB contemporaries as they often played all year around in league games, exhibition games, barnstorming games, leagues in Mexico, Cuba etc.
