fielding stats

PostFri Jul 15, 2022 11:30 am

Hi

I asked this once before, but wanted to check again because the numbers are adding up. On the fielding stats, with X chance totals versus outs, are errors considered part of the ratio? IE is it is 149 chances and 139 outs, are errors parts of that delta of 10? I thought yes, but have seen numerous instances where the overall numbers don't add up. Any thoughts/help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

The errors don’t add up because 1) pitchers aren’t included, and 2) This is X Chart so throwing errors aren’t included either.

Thank you! In this case, I am looking at individual positions (in this case shortstop) to see how much of a benefit a "1" has given me historically, and that point you make on throwing errors is probably what is causing this.

On a side note, is there a place that this information is available on the 365 site (IE what is and isn't included in those fielding stats)?

Response to your first email - a shortstop should not have additional fielding errors that aren't on the X chart. This would apply to outfielders, catchers, and possibly pitchers if the maximum rule "Bunt for hit" is on.

On your second question, I don't know of anywhere this is described on the 365 site. I making an assumption that because its says X Chart it's only looking at errors off the X Chart, and I have noticed the same as you that errors don't add up. There are more errors committed than listed in the X Chart table.

Thanks! Will continue to monitor. I use the Dean Carrano charts pretty religiously, but wanted to try to understand it a little more beyond NERP.
