Playing a franchise

Just thought I would pass this along to see if anyone else has tried this just for fun.

I am going to play every team in an auto league using the rosters available from the expansion sets. I just finished the Kansas City Royals who went 81-81.

Of course, 80 mil limits your choices but it was fun.

I used a randomizer to determine the order of teams I played with the Yankees up next.

I think it's a great idea, but hard to be competitive...I've seen a few other GMs do similar, even though not every member of their team might have qualified

perhaps if you started a group/league, and used the randomizer or draft to determine franchises, it would be more fair and possibly more fun

certainly, even though we all have favorite teams, most respect and nostalgize over great players from MLB history

That is exactly what I am getting out of it. Being able to select the team and reminisce about each of the players that I remember from my youth. I realize that I wont be competitive but I am still having fun (so far) 1. putting the team together and 2. seeing if maybe, just maybe, I can field a wildcard team. I was happy getting to .500 with the Royals (only four games out of the playoffs) so who knows what may happen if the dice treat one of the teams right?

one of the first things I thought of was the nickname (not very well known) of 2b Royals Frank White

written on his APBA card, Frank "Academy" White ;- )

never forgotten that, love those 70's Royals teams, even as a SoCaler, I loved the Dodgers and Angels....but, when Royals were good in mid 70s, the Angels weren't and when Angels finally bought some talent (Reggie, Grich, DeCinces, Baylor, Lynn et al), the Royals were rebuilding (well),,,,,not until the early to mid 80s did they really challenge each other and I don't believe they ever met in playoffs during 70s or 80s (or ever lol !)

have fun, that's the most important aspect about it....if you ever do start a group/league with randomized franchises (anything fair, even one or recurring seasons, ideally changing franchises each SOM season), you got at least one league mate ;- )

That's not a bad idea. I feel like a 24 team league with a 100 mil cap DH league would be fun. Let me take a look at it.
