Though I never had the pleasure of meeting John personally, I played in so many leagues with him over the years I almost felt I had. I was truely stunned, as were many of us, to hear about his sudden death. The fantasy of playing this game melted away to the reality that we are all still mortal and we never know when our time is up. John was a year younger than myself. But age does not matter when you take into account the legacy of who he was and what he left behind. In this regard, John's contribution was immeasurable! I never knew him to have a harsh word for anyone. His sense of humor and fair play stood out from the vast majority of those that play this game. He was never short a credit when anyone needed a last minute league to fill, or a replacement for a manager that dropped out. Such was the generosity of his nature. Of the people that you meet going through this life, you remember the one's that have impacted your life for the better most. John made an impact on me, and of my friend, I will only add that I will miss him! =( -David

Okay, I set an explicit calandar date for *this* signup. Now Dec. 7.
Originally it was last Friday (Nov. 30). But with a short notice yesterday
and new signups this morning, I'm still in.

Is anyone in a league with TRW (to warn him on bumping up 1 Friday)?
I have already sent a league mesage to Salt.

I am tentative for Friday.

My mom went into the hospital around midnight. She is in CCU. As long as she is stable and making positive progress, I expect to keep the commitment to the live draft for next Friday.

I miss the rounds of virtual blatz with Mort. I'm not quite as ancient (strat-wise) as some, but those live drafts were really the thing that got me addicted to strat, and Mort was a key member of that community. Somebody will have to call out the "Round of Blatz!" for us at the start of the draft.

That sounds like its a lot more important than strat. Even if we weren't in good shape, you shouldn't
feel obliged. But just looking at things: (1) We have 6 days to fill the league, (2) Mr. Baseball World
said publicaly we was interested in future drafts, others mentioned it privately.

Anyway, its your call. We can hold a spot for you, but if you have to pull out, thats cool too. And there
is no rush to decide. Although a heads up on Wednesday or Thursday would be nice.

Can we do a frenzy? That's how we used to do them back when Moriarity would set them up. (Everyone would have to enter their team by say 11:45pm).

Also, how many rounds is this going to be?

I thought we always did 25 round drafts in DD when simulating LIVE drafts.
Maybe I remember wrong.

Yes, LIVE drafts should always be Frenzy's. All the managers are on line
following the draft, and it has often been requested to that Frenzy be the LIVE
draft format (don't recall any dissenting opinions on that point).

I was thinking we only did 15 rounds on the dope site. I will play either way but the dope site is slow and 25 picks could take over 8 hours if we did three rounds per hour at or near 2 minutes for each pick.

Also once we get 12 managers lets start the draft with no clock and knock out some rounds prior to Friday night.

With 15 rounds you basically would be guaranteed your starting nine hitters, four starting pitchers and two other players of your choice prior to a frenzy.

Just my two cents worth

Big Ric

PS Salt you wanna trade draft picks? lol

If you want to start with no clock until Friday at 9pm or 10 pm, I am ok with that. However, if I am at work, I am unable to access the SOM website. So, if it's my turn, the next person is going to be waiting until I get home at 7-7:30pm.

The question of how long a LIVE draft takes came up privately. Most managers
who have done LIVE drafting never use the whole clock.

In my experience, a 2 minute clock DD draft takes about
2 hours + 10 minutes per each "New-to-LIVE-draft" manager.

As a comparison, the 45 second clock LIVE drafts took about an hour
+5 minutes per each "New-to-LIVE-draft" manager.

I am against putting any additional time pressure whatasoever on a
new manager, "All are Welcome." But I will say this: 2 minutes, or even
45 seconds, is plenty of time make a decision. But its too little time to
research players. For the experienced LIVE managers, probably over half
their picks are decided before they are even on the clock (in my estimation).
