There are two different Bishops, the "newer" one is faster than the original cheaper one. The original one was a 1e15 with a running speed of 10. The more recent one is a 1e6 with a running speed of 12. While 12 isn't great, it's not a 10 and his defense is great.

In all honesty, just today I considered putting him on a squad when I realized there were two different ones.

I've used Max a couple of time at $100M caps....he plays FLAWLESS defense and I bat him #9 in DH leagues to 'TURN' over the lineup and his .380 OBA + .280 Slg is very typical of what you can expect.

I also used Max batting leadoff again around .380ish OBA and Ashburn around .390ish OBA followed with clubbers like Bonds + McCovey, etc.....and they scored a TON! if you have Bashers who cares about speed ?!?!.....here's my problem with Max.....it's NOT the production it's the fact that he's an injury risk which at $100M it's tough to have a decent replacement with OBA to fill the gap and batting leadoff, the odds are increased about 30% (over batting him 9th) that he'll miss MULTIPLE 15 game stints....and that can hurt.....but if he stays healthy he's solid value for $100M cap in a Dunn or League '34 or Penmar (those parks will add about 25 points to his LOW batting avg to help his OBA achieve .380ish) type park with lefty mashers coming behind.

Try him and Ashburn in a $100 dh league in League '34 with Lefty power guys at #3, #4 and #5 in the lineup and let us know how many runs he and Ashburn score for you.....and then let us know if he stayed healthy for at least 145 games ;-)

Good LUck!

The original question was about the 1e6 version. I think its an intriguing option.

My previous post was about his expensive injury card, his cheaper card is a WASTE!

I think some of the early responses were about the original Bishop card which was a waste. That's why I pointed it out.

Literally I have not looked at Max Bishop in 3, 4, maybe even 5 years. Then I just noticed the new and improved (albeit 15 game injury risk) Bishop. And I think probably other "old timers" might be doing the same thing as me.

Do most players avoid all of the 2 and above injury risk players as starters?

We all use a LOT of the catchers that have less than 600 PA and get injured on a "3" PLUS FOUR others come to mind.....

1 - Ted Williams CHEAP card
2 - Kal Daniels although both usually need a platoon mate to help protect for the injury factor.
3 - Eddie Collins CHEAPY
4 - Middle $ Honus Wagner MIDDLE $

The downside to ALL four is that you can get as little as 110 games and that can REALLY hurt.....but if you get LUCKY (about 1/2 of the time) then it can really pay off too!

Max had an interesting career:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_Bishop

When Bishop scored 117 runs in 1930, he became the only man in major league history to score at least 70 runs while collecting more runs than hits.

Bishop ended his playing career in 1936 with the Baltimore Orioles of the International League and then scouted for the Detroit Tigers in 1937.

After that, Bishop served as baseball head coach at the U.S. Naval Academy between 1938 and 1962. During his 25 years as Navy Midshipmen coach, he posted a 306–143 record, including an academy seasonal record of 24 victories and two defeats in 1961.

Bishop died in his home of Waynesboro at age 62. The baseball stadium at the Naval Academy is named for Bishop.[3]

OK going to give ‘ol Max a chance to shine. In the barnstormers fill in league I drafted him along with some bombers in Polo 34 and I will lead him off the entire year to see how many he can score. Batting K Smith/Mazilli platoon second. Hopefully he avoids injuries. I am hoping for 130 runs from him.

So far Max Bishop has scored every time he has reached base. Unfortunately it was only once in 12 at bats in the first series.....
