Won 2 of 3 last night with the Braves.
Unchecked Remove For Defensive Sub w/ Lead, on the hitters page.
Still have Linares and Washington listed on the Team Strategy page.

Lost the first game, no defensive moves by HAL.
Won the 2nd game, no moves by HAL.
Won the 3rd game, only move by HAL was bringing in Linares in the bottom of the 8th.

So defense got better with Linares coming in for Carty, but Garr was still in RF with Washington on the bench.

Why Linares by himself?

One example of many for my teams: Astros team, platoon of Joe Morgan and Johnny Temple at 2b. I have Morgan marked as defensive sub in Team Strategy Page. through 132 games, Morgan has entered the game 15 times as defensive replacement for Temple out of Temple's 44 starts.

I don't know why only Linares came in.

The best I can explain it:
On the Team Strategy Page, you are making SUGGESTIONS to HAL about defensive subs. HAL takes into account multiple things to determine whether to sub or not.
If you do it with Hitters Pref Page, HAL follows your orders and pulls the player, with sometimes disastrous results.

Washington isnt that much better than Garr, especially when you take into account that Garr had another AB coming in the following inning.

This is an ATG theme league. I have the Braves. I'm limited in players that I can use.
So Carty and Garr, both 4's defensively, are set to be pulled for slightly better defensive guys (Linares and Washington)

I WANT them to be pulled, hence I have them checked.
I have their backups listed in the lineups as well as for defensive replacements.

If you set a defensive replacement in the Team Settings HAL will USUALLY replace them and he will do it with the person you have designated. But if you check the box Remove For Defensive Sub on the Hitter Preference page. HAL will ALWAYS replace them and like I said, he does some crazy shit, because no matter what he is going to find a way to replace him no matter the game situation.

Point being, use the team settings, no the individual settings and you will see better results. I know this from personal experience.

No offense Andy but...

It seems weird to me that 1 scenario is a SUGGESTION to HAL, whereas the other could be a hard rule.

IK... 8-)

I'm assuming a computer sees things as Yes or No. Black or White.

I don't ever think a computer simulation uses suggestions.

I always appreciate the advice though.

Thanks again...

By suggestions, what I mean is if the particular situation doesn’t meet certain qualifications, HAL may not make the move.

1st game last night,
http://365.strat-o-matic.com/game/playbyplay/437255/40

I win 7-3. Carty and Garr remain in the game, with Linares/Washington on the bench.
They're NOT checked on the hitters page, but Linares and Washington are set as Defensive Subs on the Strategy page.

2nd game,

I win again.
http://365.strat-o-matic.com/game/playbyplay/437255/46
Linares replaces Carty only.

3rd game,

I win.
http://365.strat-o-matic.com/game/playbyplay/437255/52
Washington dusts off his cletes and replaces Garr finally.

3 wins. I shouldn't be complaining, I know.
But with the Defensive Subs, I'm suggesting to HAL, that my defense in the OF, is probably better.
