In high caps everyone wants the same players, so in theory a lot more hinges on the relatively random outcomes of the draft. More randomness means skill is less determinative, which means it's harder to win consistently. At least that's why I assumed he qualified it like that. At low caps you're not as likely to miss on a ton of your guys in the draft, and even if you do, the options for replacing them are plentiful.

That said, I have two $140 teams and a $200 under my belt, out of the aforementioned 11 (not sure if $140 qualifies as high cap or not). The $140 teams were a finals loss and 101-win semis loss. The $200 I lost the wildcard on tiebreakers but honestly that was overachieving. But I'm in two ongoing $200 leagues currently and wrecking them both, 86-52 and 30-15. The former I somehow managed to land both Ruth and Bonds and was last in waivers, the latter I was first in waivers. So we'll see, maybe high caps will drag me down eventually but right now not so much.

How can you tell they are "clearly" not new? Because their winning % is too high? I'd never played 365 before a few months ago but I have a .572 w% through my first 11 teams.

that's an interesting comment - you are playing in a 200 million league where you got both Bonds and Ruth and were last in waivers? maybe you have a .572 win pct playing in leagues with "noobs" lol

See its pretty simple --
High Cap leagues start in the neighborhood of say 200 plus.
So maybe you can call a 180 or 190 league high cap, but 140 not at all.

1. there is certainly a more limited pool when everyone is using the top end players.
2. Your auto draft is much more important bc the average replacement for the player you lost can be significantly lower.
3. Getting both Ruth and Bonds in an auto draft is extremely rare, and to be first in waivers on top of that won't happen more than once in a hundred leagues or so Id guess, if that often.
4. The more you play with the same managers- the more they will copy what the most successful player does -- thus making it that much tougher to land similar players repeatedly.
5. The more they copy- the more you will be seeing similar strategies, thus making it more difficult to beat your own strategy-- not impossible by any means- just more difficult.

Hence, thus and theretofore the winning pct will come down, if one continues to actually play those high caps.
Now, there are a number of extraneous factors- for example:
1. there are a couple of guys over the years that have figured out how to access SoM to see other people's draft cards- and therefor know how some managers like to set their order.
2. There are all sorts of other hacks that might be occurring - who knows? I certainly don't know the extent of it.

So what is your winning % in postseason? Did all 11 teams make post season? How many of those teams won championships?

In smaller cap leagues, much of the strategy is the ratio of dollars spent between hitting, pitching, defense, and platoons. High cap leagues eliminate this advantage. Everyone has an Ace pitching staff and nine sluggers.

aka "Rookie Leagues". SOM BOT teams make zero roster moves after the autodraft.

Much like Billy Beane, my shit doesn't work in the playoffs. Only two teams missed the postseason (both lost the WC on tiebreakers) but only one team got a ring.

No bot leagues. https://i.imgur.com/26DTpLY.png

Does SOM actually count those leagues when calculating career stats for managers?
