POLL REGARDING ATG8 vs ATG9 Pitching Programming

Moderator: Palmtana

Revert to ATG8 Pitching or Keep As is?

A - ATG9 is great and should proceed AS-IS.

B - ATG9 would be better if we reverted back to the ATG8 pitching engine and bullpen options, but keep the ATG9 price increases to discourage over use of relievers.

I think we have to acknowledge that the poll's question was very narrow in scope and may have caused some not to answer. It is possible many people felt like their perspective was not represented by the choices.

However, avoiding the fire-ready-aim approach with these results, I think we can also acknowledge the following:
- An overwhelming majority of respondents believed they would be happier with the prior version, and there is likely an opportunity for improving the pitching algorithm/AI programming.
- Implied within that is a wish to regain prior controls over pitchers.

My opinion is it identifies an opportunity for SOM to further define the problem using the community. As some have offered here and in the other thread, solutions could be test-bedded using league controls tailoring or other methods so that there can be real-time community assessment of adjustments and effects. That includes just repricing, IMO.

Maybe it is time to present this to SOM more formally using these results and the discussions as a starting point, via an email directly, and also to roll in the ATG tourney board and commish to see if they support investigating options to identify issues and solutions. After all, the ATG tourney is like the glue that holds the ATG community together IMO. If nothing else, it is the biggest dog in the arena.

I disagree about the scope comment you made.
In order to make changes, strong consensus is needed.
If you make things too broad in scope, too many people find an issue they disagree with, so they either don't vote or the vote against it.
What I saw was that on the boards, many owners were dissatisfied with the ATG9 pitching programming, and that they preferred the previous ATG8 programming.
By keeping it simple, and keeping it to that one issue, we were able to get clear consensus that owners prefer the previous version.
The next step would be to see if STRAT would respond to this clear indicator. If they do, that would be the point to discuss other possible changes such as pricing changes, more bullpen controls etc.
One step at a time.
The key first step is to get STRAT to institute the ATG8 pitching programming while keeping the pricing of relievers per ATG9. Once STRAT agrees to do that, the next step is to look at overall pricing change recommendations.

I am not saying I know one way or the other--all good.

But I think there are more than 85 or 90 players. So all I mean is the poll may reflect the votes of those who are strongly opinionated or dissatisfied, like you and me, but the majority of players may not have responded. I don't know what the denominator is.

You and I have been around here long enough to know that bold response to a loud and convinced plurality is exactly what got us BP v3.

Cheers

I thought this was supposed to be the most realistic GM/ Managerial experience? When they took away control of the bullpens and raised the price of relievers they ruined the game. And by realistic, I don't mean exactly realistic statistics, I MEAN REALISTIC CONTROL OVER THE TEAM LIKE A MANAGER AND A GM WOULD HAVE.

Until people complain about the tiny rosters, the mash unit teams and the SUPER STARTERS with NO CONTROL OVER THE BULLPEN THIS FORMAT IS GOING TO SUCK, MASSIVELY. I mostly just play the Daily Game, The Mystery Game, and the retro sets, including ATG8. PEACE OUT

Then go play it. Makes your case even weaker. That is part of the problem with these polls. Like if I voted on Daily game crap when I don't even play it.

All one has to do is look at the BS tour numbers to know there are more consistent players here than the Daily game and more than the 20xx game.

I no longer play the 20xx game because I don't like all the stadiums being homogeneous and having to hope for a a good draft due to a limited player pool, both of which make luck a bigger factor. But to each their own. Not sure why I should be bothered by that.

By all means, I would assume the only people playing ATG are the ones who enjoy some aspect of it.

Agree with FrankieT here, if you don't like it, don't play it. Noticed that Radagast Brown just copied and pasted his post here from another in the 20XX board. He doesn't even play ATG9, but has lots of opinions on how to make it better.
